JULY ‘24

We have changed our bank account - please take note of invoices from July onwards.

It’s July and we are heading into our second month of winter, with most of us already looking forward to spring!

This month we are pleased to introduce our newest member of the team, Frankie. From South Yorkshire, she has been in NZ for two years and has recently returned from a trip to base camp in Nepal. Frankie is helping Sam with daily tasks and is also our very own roving photographer, taking photos for our newsletter and soon to happen website.

Winter Grazing

Due to a dry Autumn, many animals are grazing paddocks with very low grass which can affect their health and wellbeing.

  • Have a good grazing rotation. Allow paddocks 4-6 weeks rest if possible, for parasites in the ground to die off
  • Keep an eye out for symptoms of worm burden. Dirty bums, losing condition, or a lack of interest in food can all be symptoms and need prompt treatment
  • Keep feeding out, topping up grazing with hay and baylege, this helps keep animals warm over winter. Some feeds provide more nutrition than others and we can advise re this and supply
  • Salt blocks and molasses licks are recommended, especially for in-lamb ewes
  • Keep an eye out for diseases such as scabby mouth and barber poles. Both can be more prevalent with short grass grazing

**We are able to provide you hay, salt blocks and molasses energy licks*
